March 16th, 2010 was a long time comin'! Even when you marry an American Citizen your road to citizenship is not very simple as we found out...after proving...our devotion to each other, the fact that we have been living together the past five years and speeding tickets from eight years ago were paid, Anna was allowed to become a citizen of our fine country yesterday.
It began with an early wake-up call and an 8:30am appointment at the Courthouse in Brooklyn. For an interesting three hours that included a field trip of 35 sixth graders watching a judge speak for at most five minutes and then 194 people being called up to claim their certificates of citizenship.
The courthouse happened to be located right around the corner from the Brooklyn Bridge so we took the opportunity to check another item off our list of things we want to accomplish in NYC as we walked the Brooklyn Bridge across to Manhattan...it was nice.
Anna had me attempt to eat the Bridge...I found it humorous...
Then Anna tried to pinch the bridge and all of its suspensions...I guess...
The bridge as we approached it...
The view across to the Manhattan Bridge and Midtown...
The other side...Downtown with Lady Liberty in the distance...
A little bit closer to Lady Liberty...visiting her island is still on our list of things to do...
Not on our list to do is what we witnessed this construction worker do which was scale down the Brooklyn Bridge with no attachment...
After our bridge excursion Anna looked up where her waffle truck was located and after I pointed out that today was Tuesday and not Wednesday we headed towards its proper location uptown...AND FOUND IT!!!
Anna was a little disappointed that the boss guy she had seen on Bobby Flay's Throwdown wasn't there, but she still enjoyed it....
And the Liege Waffle was yummy too!!
After our international snack we knew we had to go American for lunch and were lucky enough to stumble upon Five Guys Burgers and Fries which we had always wanted to try...
Madison thought it was delicious as well as Mommy degreased some french fries to share with her...Daddy wasn't too pleased, but it was Mommy's day!! Lily, you've got some competition in the FFFC (French Fry Fan Club)!!!
Outside our apartment, after returning home, Anna snapped a few photos to further prove that spring is on the way...as if the gorgeous weather wasn't proof enough!!
CONGRATULATIONS Anna! Welcome to the USA as a citizen!!! I understand a move is in your future and a trip to see your folks. Hope both things go well for you all.
ReplyDeleteYay for being a citizen! Sounds like an all-American day... except maybe for a baseball game and apple pie. Whenever you get called for jury duty, then you'll know you've arrived :)
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that there was a field trip there to watch you become a citizen. You will be imprinted on the brains of those sixth graders forever!
And yay for the FFFC. The only bad thing about your kid liking french fries is when you go through the bank drive through and they ask, "fries?" :)
Congrats Anna! We are so glad your journey to citizenship is over
