Madison's Garden - UPDATE!/

So it's been about a month and a half for most of our veggies and fruits trees since we planted them... And that means it's time for our update blog!!

This one we just planted this past weekend and wasn't with us in the previous post... Asian Pear!! When we first bought this tree it was totally naked, no leaves, nothing! but all those leaves started to come out in matter of a few days and not so naked anymore!

Just so you can really compare... This is the picture from our first post on our plants...

Now our avocado tree looks like this!

New addition I think? A peach tree:-)

The orange tree has 3 or 4 little green balls right now but it's supposed take a bout a year for them to be ready so we will keep you posted!

Our fuji apple tree had flowers about two weeks ago but I noticed last week that pollination didn't seem to go well so we have low hope on getting to taste any this year...

Our grape vine is heading towards death as we can't seem to decide the final planting location yet...

It may be because of my pruning work I gave to the lemon tree or just the work of fertilizer but right now the tree is covered with green balls!! I guess in Southern California Lemon trees lemons constantly and you will be able to see flowers getting pollinated, small green baby lemons, fully ready lemons all at the same time all year around. I know you can't smell the picture but these flowers smell soooo good:-) I really think talking to the tree really helped though...

In these pictures you can really see the baby lemons!

Madison's Square Garden looks more filled up now!

This blackberry bush has tons of green berries on it but they don't seem to get anywhere... All our berry bushes seems to be struggling a bit... I guess we would just have to wait for Drew and Kate to tell us in a couple of weeks...

Right next to the cherry tomato we've added heirloom tomato and right now they both have green tomatoes on them...

I planted these corn on the side of the house but I just recently spread them a apart since they needed more space from each other...

I was so excited to see the baby cucumbers the other day!

This picture was taken when we first planted...

A month and a half later they are bigger and we may be seeing some flowers soon.

One on the left is our Japanese egg plant...

There is at lease one baby egg plant hanging now...

These were planted as seeds and thriving! Mixed green leaves and ones on the right are radishes!

The watermelons are having a great time! They were so tiny before...

But definitely taking over the big area we reserved for them! Once the vines grow long enough with the baby watermelons we are gonna slowly lead them off the garden and onto the side...

Our front lawn though has been the most challenging... It's looking very patchy and I'm constantly pulling out devil's weeds so after we can get rid of big weeds we will probably have to seed the bold area and give it another try:-)

Our Ellie Bean doesn't look too different from a year and a half ago... still pretty much hair-less, but beautiful as always...:-)

  1. So I don't know if you know this about apple trees, but they don't self-pollinate. So if you only have one, it may not get pollinated, unless a nearby neighbor has one as well. So they always tell you to plant two apple trees if you're going to plant one, that way they can pollinate each other and you'll actually get apples!

    1. :-( Weird! Our fuji apple was labeled as self pollinate so we didn't get another apple tree... so not sure why but my "grow fruits" book says even if it can self pollinate it's best to hand pollinate to make sure so I guess that's what I'm gonna try next time but we are actually getting another apple tree to have since we can never have enough fruit trees so i'm making sure to get the kind of apple tree that flowers at the same time as fuji...:-) I love my book, I'm learning so much about growing fruits. I actually ordered "grow vegetables" book and arrived today so I'm excited to read it through...:-)

  2. Well if they said it will self pollinate, hopefully it will! Maybe it just needs a year to adjust or something. I should probably get a book on gardening. I don't know a whole lot, but I would like to garden!
