The Rest of the Story.../残りの話...

So when we last left you there was much anticipation about how that second interview went...well like any good soap opera, we will build up to that...
実は最後のポストは話さなかった事が結構あるんです...でもここですぐに話したらつまらないからゆっくり話しましょう...

First let me fill you in on what we didn't share in the previous posts...at least I don't think we did...so the housing search in Long Beach was difficult as some of the city is not the safest so we were frustrated, but there was always one dream building we passed on Ocean Ave each day to visit the other parts of town, so finally we decided we would just go in and see, knowing the building would be far above our price range...so we actually went on our apartment hunting day of Saturday, but the people were so busy we had to leave for another appointment before even seeing the place, but just going from the price sheet and the fact that the doggies would take on another $150 a month in pet rent, we sadly had to admit the place was way out of our price range as we had come to Long Beach to make sure we could save money...
まず最初に、話した覚えがない事...カリフォルニアでのアパート探しがうまくいかなくて少しガッカリしていた時、いつも通りがかってはここいいねーって言っていたマンションがあったんです。でも高すぎるからって行くつもりは無かったんだけどせっかくだからと土曜日に寄ってみました。案の定週末は見学者がいっぱいで、次に見る予定のアパートの予約時間に間に合うようにそのマンションを見ないまま帰りました。でもチラシに書いてあった家賃はやっぱり高すぎてしかも犬２匹で月々１万５０００円と完全に諦めていたんです。

Monday rolled around and after my first interview we decided to give 1900 Ocean another shot...just for the fun of it... we went and no one was there...we stepped right up to the licensing associate...she got out her little availability sheet and said $???? that we definitely weren't expecting (and the leasing agent wasn't either as she said it was the lowest she had seen in a long while) so we toured the property and its paddle tennis court overlooking the ocean, its fitness center that makes it look like you are exercising on the beach, its pool and hot tub overlooking the ocean, its on site deli and cafe, its assigned indoor parking spot...I think you get the idea...so when we saw the apartment itself of course we instantly fell in love with it...because we knew we would never be in it except to sleep and occasionally eat...that makes a 420 square foot studio seem very livable...and it is on the 6th floor overlooking the city, which apartment lady said on a clear day meant seeing the Hollywood sign to our left and snow capped mountains to the right out the full-length windows that span the length of our living/bed/whatever other room...I could get use to that!
月曜日の午前中の面接の後、もう一回見学してみる事にしました。やっぱり月曜日は事務所もガラガラですぐにマンション見学させてもらえ、全ての場所が気に入ってしまいました。このマンションはジムやプールは勿論コンビニ、地下指定駐車場、ミニテニス場があって、しかもその日の１LDKの家賃が僕たちが払っても十分貯金が出来る金額！絶対欲しい！部屋はとっても狭いんだけど景色もいいしこれだけアぱート外でする事があれば全然大丈夫！

One problem remained...
一つ問題が...

NO JOB!!!
仕事が決まっていない!!!

And no job meant no apartment :-( So we left sadder than we had entered because now we knew there was a chance to get into our dream building and we still couldn't do it...we knew by the time the job thing happened the apartment would be long gone...bummer...so we went further down the shore to the trendy part of the city called Belmont Shore...still close to the ocean, but little duplexes with no amenities was hard to swallow after seeing what we could have. Anyways, So as we mentioned in the previous blog post we got another interview scheduled in the afternoon which went really well, so on a whim, we called 1900 Ocean and asked if that apartment was still available...
そして仕事が決まっていないって言う事はアパートも無し：(昨日までは高すぎて住めないと思っていたこのマンションに住む事が出来るかも、でもまだ駄目だ...もし仕事が決まったとしてもその時にはこの部屋は誰かに借りられているはずだし...あ〜あ...その後もう一件トレンディーな近所にあるアパートを見に行ったんだけど、あのマンションに敵う分けないし...午後にあったデイブの面接が凄いうまくいった後、マンションを見せてくれたリサという人に電話をすると...

IT WAS!!...:-)
部屋まだあるって!!...：）

so we immediately headed back and put a 48 hour hold on the place pending my proof of employment in Long Beach...and we left Monday night ecstatic!! Tuesday morning came and we flew back to Connecticut and waited by the phone...no word on the job...Wednesday came and our 48 hours were quickly dwindling...Lisa, the licensing person at 1900 Ocean called and said we had until 1:00pm the next day to prove employment or our hold would be up...so we decided to call Heather(the Special Ed lady) that the principal would have reported back to, so I did and she said that all she could say at the moment is that I did really well at the interview, but she should be able to say something more specific by tomorrow morning...well that caused a smile as wide as the Mississippi at some point where the river is very wide, and we went back to waiting, expecting another sleepless night, but about two hours later the phone rang again and it was Heather and she officially offered me the job at Jordan high school...
それから直ぐそのマンションに戻って４８時間待ってもらう事にしました。そして次の日の朝早く飛行機に乗ってコネチカットに戻って待つ事丸一日と半分...４８時間がもうすぐ終わる頃にリサからの電話...まだ誰からも仕事の電話が来ていないと言うと、明日の午後１時まで待てるけどその後は部屋を他の人に貸し出さなきゃいけないって...だからカリフォルニアに来て２日目に面接をしたロングビーチの学校区の担当の人ヘザーに電話をすると、今はまだ詳しい事は話せないけど面接上出来だったよって、でも明日の朝にはハッキリするからって...それを聞いた僕にはとーっても大きな笑顔が...だからまた明日の朝まで待つのかーと思っていたら２時間後に電話が鳴りました。ヘザーが正式にジョーダン高校で働いてもらいたいって!!!!

HOORAY!!!
やった〜!!!

We called 1900 Ocean and were able to fax them everything we needed to and we now officially reside at 1900 E. Ocean Blvd ...if you plan to visit be ready to sleep on the floor, but when you roll off the floor you will roll in to the ocean :-)
その直ぐ後にリサに電話して必要だった書類を全部送って手続き終了：）私達の海辺の新居です...もし遊びに来るつもりなら床に寝てもらわなきゃいけないけど、砂浜は直ぐそこだからね：）

So today we are actually at my brother Jim and sister-in-law Alyson's place in Hayden, Idaho...we successfully completed the 2900 mile drive from Sunday night to Wednesday afternoon...we drove through the night Sunday and Monday and finally stayed at a hotel Tuesday night...a lot of things happened, but we will save those for our next post as we will be here until Sunday night when we head to our new home in Long Beach...with a little stop to see the Vegas Strip!! Stay Tuned!!
今日からアイダホにいるデイブの弟ジムとアリソンの家にいるんです...日曜日の夜コニチカットを出て４６６７キロのドライブの後やっと着きました。日曜日の夜と月曜日丸一日と火曜日半日ドライブして火曜日の夜はホテルに泊まった後やっと着きました。沢山の事が起こったけどそれはまた別のポストで話すから乞うご期待！ここには日曜日の夜までいる予定です、そして次の目的地はロングビーチ、カリフォルニア!!
