MOMA and Central Park Zoo/

Saturdays are a fun day now that we have learned we can find parking in the city. We started by walking down Fifth Ave and visiting the Gap store which Anna has found quite a few cute outfits at lately for Madison. After the Gap we went across the street to the Modern Museum of Art, MOMA for short, and explored the museum. Anna gets in free thanks to her Liz Claiborne work ID and in the five years we have been here I still had never gone, so this was a first for Madison and myself. Obviously, since it took me five years to go to one of the greatest art museums in the world I am not the biggest art lover, but it was fun to see some of the more famous works.
Anna and Madison posed in front of this mammoth work by Jackson Pollack. Don't ask me what it is called, let's just call it Splatter.

Then we have one that I am sure everyone recognizes...Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh...it is Van Gogh right?

Then there was a wing of works by Andy Warhol. Here is his Marilyn Monroe portrait.

Lastly, Madison wanted to pose in front of this sculpture by Pablo Picasso.

After the MOMA we headed back up town to 59th street and entered the park to do a first for everyone in the family...visit the Central Park Zoo...we actually decided to get a membership so for a year Anna can get two guests plus three kids in free to the Central Park, Bronx, Queens and Prospect Park Zoos and also the New York Aquarium which we are very excited about. So feel free to visit and bring two of your kids :-)

Here we are at the seal tank...Madison is sporting her new shade hat from the Gap...she didn't like it too much.

The zoo is pretty small, but you can get pretty close to some cool animals like these monkeys...

and this polar bear.

Madison was not impressed.

  1. Jackson Pollock is from Wyoming! (We Wyomingites have to stick together, you know.)

The zoo looks fun. Maybe we'll have to come visit sometime. Hmmmm :)

My word verification is "endwar" propaganda much?

  2. So I was just showing Lily your blog and trying to get her to say "Madison" but she was prettymuch unimpressed with the whole thing until we got to pictures of the Beans. She lit up and started saying "Woof woof!" Maybe some day she'll care more about her cousin than dogs :)

  3. Starry Night is my all time favorite painting. When I visited MOMA I was short on time so I spent it standing in front of Starry Night and just soaking it in. I would like to come back to NYC sometime and visit places I missed the first time.

  4. So you're giving my grandaughter some culture.I'd like to visit the MOMA with her someday when she's alot older and get her take on Jackson Pollack's works. The zoo looks like fun, especially since you can get close to the animals.
