Today Madison had her very first play group experience! Even more exciting is that this is a Japanese Play Group where everything is done in Japanese including songs and games and the language they speak. We've been looking for a Japanese play group ever since Madison was born and I finally came across a web site the other day called NYCNDA. Well, we quickly signed up for a Mommy & Me class with a First Time Trial Fee of $10!
Since it was snowing a bit and really cold outside only 4 babies including Madison showed up but I think Madison was really excited to see other babies that are really close to her age finally! The first 20 minutes or so was spent just playing with toys and relaxing... Madison was playing with a toy pretty much the whole 20 minutes but I guess she decided to go get herself a new toy, so she scooted up to a boy baby and as her left hand tugged the hem of the boy's sweater her right hand snatched up a toy he was holding!! Where did she learn that!?

As soon as we got there she wasted no time reaching for this toy and biting every bit of it! I've never been to a play group before so I was glad to find out that they wash all the toys afterward...

We had to wear name tags including the babies. Of course babies get their name tags on their back and yes, that's how we write Madison's name in Japanese.

クラスは先生と一緒に歌を歌ったり、本を読んでもらったりと簡単な赤ちゃん向けの事をしたんだけど、懐かしい狸の歌も歌ってくれたからよかったです！あれっ、どうだったっけ？抱っこして、おんぶしてどうのこうのって言う歌。でもちゃんとお昼寝が取れなかったマディソンは途中で座っているのが嫌になったりした時もあったけど楽しめたみたい。
During the Mommy & Me class our teacher sang some songs and read some books and interacted with the babies. She sang the song that I liked when I was small but had forgotten so that was really nice... Too bad I can't remember how it goes now though... Because Madison couldn't take a descent nap on our way there, she was starting to get sleepy and fussy at one point but she powered through and finished strong... Glad she had a lot of fun there!

That's awesome that you found a Japanese play group! Was it those Japanese ladies that walk by your apartment? :) I think Japanese is becoming a more popular language here, and it's taught in a lot of high schools. I'll bet you'll be able to find a little Japanese culture wherever you live, but of course living in NYC is a huge advantage right now. Do they have different play groups for different ages? Because all the babies look really close in age.

ReplyDeleteNo this play group is in East Village so it's a bit out of the way but I wanted to see if it's worth making the journey... All the babies were really close to Madison's age... One girl was 8 month same as Madison, 7 month baby girl and 9 month boy so that was really exciting to see how she interact with other babies that are close in age:-)
ReplyDeleteIs Lily going to be learning a new language anytime soon like Spanish? That's cool that Japanese is getting popular in schools! It is one of the hardest languages to learn so never hurt to start early!(I guess High School is not really early though...:-)
I don't know if we'll try to teach Lily a language at all. I guess we haven't really talked about it. We'd have to learn the language ourselves! I took German and Jim took Spanish... and neither of us are very good. :) Maybe we'll just leave it up to ye olde public school system?
